The Idea
Keeping up with local live music is harder than it should be. Most outlets cater to tourists and the Strip, and posts about local shows are scattered all over different feeds. It’s difficult to get the word out to the community as a whole, and even more challenging for fans to filter out all the noise to find what actually interests them.
VEGASLOUDER! exists to amplify the local Las Vegas scene by making it easier to find out about the local shows you want to see.
We provide a completely free community resource for everyone, where local bands, promoters, and venues can post their shows, music, pics, videos, and EPKs to help get the word out. Fans can actually find their local favorites, sign up for alerts, and make sure they never miss another show because “the algorithm” buried a post from their favorite band until days after the show happened.
Why VEGASLOUDER! Exists:
Hey, I'm Joe, and I love live music. Especially local, live music; it’s what I grew up on. I started going to all-ages shows in the early 90s at houses, in alleys, tiny all ages joints behind record stores, skate parks, back yards, coffee shops, warehouses; wherever I could find them. My friends and I even put on a few shows ourselves way back then. And I still occasionally host some in my backyard, so I’m sure I’ve bumped into some of you before!
But finding local shows has always been a challenge. Posts are scattered across all the different social media platforms, websites, groups, shared calendars, and whatever else there is. When I first moved to Vegas 20 years ago, I was checking all of it, and still finding out about shows days after they happened. Much different than the posts on the local record stores’ boards and ‘zines that all used to be our go-tos!
And I still miss shows I want to go see. Not because the artists, bands, promoters, and venues aren’t all posting them; they’re doing more work now than ever to promote. I miss them because we’re all at the mercy of whatever garbage the algorithm feels like showing us this week. Years ago I started keeping a spreadsheet to try and catch as many as I could; and at first it was just my nerdy way of trying to get to as many shows as possible.
Pretty soon, my friends were asking how I always knew about shows, and it became obvious that I was not the only one with this problem. Anyone who cares about local music is doing the same frustrating scavenger hunt. And the bands, and promoters, and venues who put in all the work are the ones getting buried.
So I started turning my nerdy little spreadsheets into a database, and just kinda kept going till it turned into VEGASLOUDER! One centralized place, driven by the community, built to amplify the local Vegas scene and make it easier for all of us to support each other. A unified space for the artists who deserve to be heard, the venues and promoters holding it all together, and all of us who just want to go see good, local, live music.
VEGASLOUDER! is and will always be free for fans, bands, promoters, and the venues. This isn’t a business to me, there's zero dollars being exchanged. It’s a passion project and a way to give back to the local music community that I've loved throughout my life.
For now, it does one thing: provides the local shows you all post, listed in one place, and always in your hand so you quit missing them like I did. But this is just the first piece. There’s more to come…
